Help :D? - Opera for Teenagers

About Help :D?

Previous Entry Help :D? Jan. 20th, 2007 @ 07:14 pm Next Entry

I've been taking lessons for about 4 and a half months and (probably partly because I did not have the intention of singing opera when I started) I've only just started [to try] singing classical pieces recently in class. Not arias - just pieces like Bach's Ave Maria and Allelujah! from Mozart's Exsultate Jubilante (sp? X.x; ).

Anyway, that was just to clarify my n00b-ness XD;. The reason I'm here is because I'm having some breath-support issues and I was hoping that maybe you guys could give me some advice. I can take breath in correctly, but as far as using it goes, I'm lost. My teacher tells me that I start to tense my jaw and push out the sound, which doesn't work too well.

I know I'll probably get it eventually, but I'd be nice if you guys could give me some advice to speed things along, if you can. =D?

What you really need to be doing in forming proper resonance. It will help. A lot. Try to direct your sound towards the sinus cavities and such and it will be easier to sing the way. (BTW, does this make any sense?)

I had a better way to phrase all this... but I'll get back to you if I remember.

That, and there's people here who can explain it better than me...

Yeah, I get what you mean XD. I've lately figured that out, but I have yet to get the hang of it.

Thanks! I appreciate the advice =]!

Think round, try and think of your voice like a ball and make it round and imagine your air pushing the ball up, only you dont want to through it across the room [ yet ] you simply want to make it hover so try and make the ball [ your voice ] hover - even though it's a mental thing you will find your body will pysically respond.

Hope that helps, it always did for me.

Thanks you! People always tell me singing is all about imagery, so I will definitely try that!

Thanks so much, again. =]!
